When a merchant is requesting a pre-authorization, the authorized amount may differ from the final transaction amount. This situation may occur when booking a car rental or checking in at a hotel. Similar situations may occur when fueling a car at gas stations or when paying meals at restaurants, as the tip amount will be provided after the authorization is obtained.
